How to tag people on Facebook: remove, allow, Timeline

Tagging people in posts, photos and videos on Facebook allows your friends and business partners to discover and access this content. From this guide you will learn what Facebook tagging is: how to make tags, remove them from your friends' posts, and control which tagged posts are placed on your timeline.

How tagging on Facebook works?

Facebook tags are automatic links with usernames. When you tag a user in a post, comment, image, or video, those links lead to this user's profile, and that post is added to that person's timeline. If this user is your friend on Facebook, the tag automatically appears on your profile.

Tagging is especially useful for group photos and for your status update as a way to show your audience who you are with or who you are adressing to.

How to tag other users on Facebook?

If you are posting a photo and want to tag some other user on it, follow these steps:

  • At the top of your Feed, click Photo/Video below What's on your mind, [Name]? and pick the photo you want to share.
  • Click Edit.

In Settings & privacy, you can choose what type of notifications you want to receive about tags: by Push-messges in the app, Email or SMS.
