Windows 8 - Create and use a recovery disk

The system recovery options can help you to repair Windows in the case you encounter a serious error (Windows starting over and over). To use these options, you need a to create Windows installation disc or access the recovery options provided by your computer manufacturer. If you have neither of these options available, you can create a repair disc to access system recovery options.

Create a recovery disc under Windows 8

  • Go to the charm bar and select Settings
  • Then go to the Control Panel.
  • Then go to Windows File Recovery.
  • Then select the option to the left called: create a System Repair Disc.
  • Choose the drive to perform your backup and click on Next.
  • The creation process starts and may takes a few minutes.
  • The system recovery disk is necessary when your computer unbootable or if you need to create a create a system image.



Note that:
If you are prompted to insert a Windows installation disc, it means that the files needed to create the system repair disc can not be found on your computer. Insert the installation disc.

Using the system recovery disk

  • Insert the system recovery disk into the CD or DVD drive of your computer.
  • Restart your computer and make sure that it is configured to boot on the CD/DVD drive.
  • If prompted, press any key to start the computer from the system recovery disk.
  • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
  • Select a recovery option, and then click Next.
