Unable to connect PS3 in 1080p mode

Issue

I possess a full HD LCD Sharp LC42XD10E and I'm unable to connect my PS3 in 1080p mode (HDMI) and so I am forced to select the 1080i mode.

Solution

When turning on the PS3, press the reset button until you hear a double "beep".
Then PS3 will reset the video and audio parameters according to your TV and your connection.
