April 2015

YouTube is a video streaming platform where users can upload, view and share videos. It was created in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, and is now owned and manage by Google. YouTube is currently available in the language of several countries: Brazil, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom.

Subscribe to YouTube

Most of the videos on the site can be viewed by all users, but only registered users:
  • can upload videos (create channels).
  • post comments and rate videos online.
  • subscribe to other channels.
  • Create a playlists.
  • Monetize their content.

Create a YouTube Account

To subscribe to YouTube, you must first create a Google Account and accept the terms of use.
The Google account will give you access to Google Mail, Google +, YouTube and all other applications developed by Google.
To create a Google Account, you must specify:
  • Your name and surname.
  • A username that will be used for your email address.
  • Password.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Gender
  • Mobile Number.
  • Your email address.

Once your account is created, you can access your personal YouTube channel (by default your username).

Technical Design

YouTube uses the Adobe Flash technology to display all kinds of videos: movie clips, TV shows, and music videos, as well as amateur videos from blogs.
To be able to view the videos published on Youtube you will need to download and install Adobe Flash Player on your browser (on the exception of Chrome based browsers which natively integrates this technology).

Retrieve and Insert a Video on your website

Copy and paste the line of code that appears to the right of the screen showing the video. The line of code changes as you choose whether to include related videos.

Then copy this line in your blog post or website: to this end, the platform usually offers a so-called "external media selector" to insert the link. Another option, place on your blog the hyperlink of the YouTube page, which will return the player to the page without displaying the video on your website or blog.
