Mozilla Thunderbird - Backup your settings

In the event that you have to re-install Thunderbird on your PC, here's how to backup your settings. Note that: the backup file is in the text format and can be used by other email-clients.

Manual backup

To save the contents of the address book, mail accounts, account settings or plugins installed, just save the following folder:
Under Windows XP:

• • C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Thunderbird

Under Windows Vista/7:

• • C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
• User: the username of the current session.

To restore the configuration, copy this entire folder to the same location.

Via an extension: Accountex

Accountex is an extension available for Thunderbird, which allows you to import or export the settings from one account to another in the RDF format.
