The
Volume Control icon in the taskbar is essential to adjust the volume of the Windows computer system in a quick and easy way. If the
volume icon is missing in the System Tray, the volume may still be increased or decreased from the laptop's volume control function keys or by
opening the volume control application in the Windows operating system, providing the
device drivers for the sound card are installed. Modifications done through the Control Panel may generate a message stating that the
volume control program hasn't been installed. To solve the
volume icon missing problem, the device drivers have to be installed.
[Windows] - volume icon is missing from System Tray
Issue
I cannot get my volume control icon back into the taskbar. I tried to make modifications via the Control Panel, but upon checking the box for "place volume icon in the task bar", I got the message, "..
volume control program has not been installed".
Solution
- Click start > Right click My Computer > Select Properties > Select the Hardware Tab > Click on Device Manager.
- Under Sound, video and game controllers you will find an unidentified device. Right click it and select Update Drivers. If the correct driver is not found, try searching on the manufacturer's website.
