ISDN

Introduction to ISDN

Numeris is the trade name of the France Telecom telephone network based on ISDN technology (Integrated Services Digital Network).

This network is designed to transport data (voice, images, faxes, etc.) separately from signalling information. ISDN owes its name to the additional services which it makes possible:

  • number display
  • three-way conversation
  • calling signal
  • call forwarding
  • indication of communication costs
  • ...

On the other hand, Numeris makes it possible to reach a guaranteed speed of 64 kbps, which offers essential reliability and comfort for uses requiring a high quality of service.

Operation of ISDN

You must have an adaptor (TNA, subscriber terminal) to be able to connect to the Numeris network. The speed is 64 Kbps (128 when using two channels) instead of 56 Kbps with the fastest modems.
