explorer.exe is a Windows NT/2000/XP generic process. It is a process which manages the user interface (shell) as well as the Windows graphical interface (the desktop).
The process explorer is not in any way a virus, a worm, a Trojan horse, spyware, or adware.
It is a system process which can be terminated. In order ro relaunch the process Explorer.exe and use the graphical interface again, launch the program manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), then select Open and enter explorer.exe.
