The concept of home cinema
The term "home cinema" refers to the ability to recreate the sound of a movie theatre at home, as faithfully as possible.
Doing so requires the following:
- An audio or video system with multichannel audio
- Devices called multichannel amplifiers, for reproducing spatial sound (3D audio) by using multiple speakers.
However, there are many standards for defining how many speakers and which audio format to use:
- Dolby Surround
- Dolby Surround Pro Logic
- Dolby Pro-Logic IIx
- Dolby Digital
- Dolby Digital EX (THX EX)
- DTS
